Shooting Stars Beat Inter Lagos 2-1 In NPFL Season Opener

Shooting Stars began their 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League campaign with a 2-1 victory over Inter Lagos in an entertaining opening-day encounter.

The Oluyole Warriors made a bright start at home and quickly put their opponents under pressure. Their attacking approach was rewarded in the 14th minute when Lucky Emmanuel found the back of the net to give the hosts an early advantage.

Inter Lagos responded positively to going behind and soon restored parity. Adigun Damilare finished off a well-delivered cross to bring the visitors level and give them renewed confidence.

Shooting Stars, however, regained control before the interval. They were awarded a penalty during first-half stoppage time, and Sodiq Ibrahim calmly converted the spot-kick to send his side into the break with a 2-1 advantage.

The second half was more evenly contested, with both teams creating opportunities as Inter Lagos searched for another equaliser while Shooting Stars looked to protect their lead.

Inter Lagos continued to threaten but could not find a way past the Shooting Stars defence.

The home side had a late opportunity to put the result beyond doubt when they were awarded another penalty in stoppage time. Mustapha Adams stepped up but was unable to convert, leaving the score at 2-1.

Despite the missed chance, Shooting Stars held on to secure maximum points and start the new NPFL season on a winning note. Inter Lagos, meanwhile, will look to bounce back in their next fixture.
