Iraq
will declare full sovereignty over its territory on Sept. 30, Prime Minister
Ali al-Zaidi said on Monday, urging Iraqis to preserve civil peace, strengthen
social cohesion and uphold the rule of law.

Speaking
at a ceremony organized by the Sunni Endowment to mark the birth of Prophet
Muhammad, al-Zaidi said his government’s goal is to build a “free Iraq” that
can provide security, dignity and stability for its people.

“Protecting
Iraq, its natural resources and the future of coming generations requires
cooperation among all Iraqis,” he added, noting that his program also focuses
on rebuilding state institutions, combating corruption and creating conditions
for productive economic activity.

The
ruling State Administration Coalition (SAC) has previously set Sept. 30 as the
deadline for ending armed activity outside official institutions, with
violations afterward subject to legal action.

Zuhair
al-Chalabi of the State of Law Coalition, however, told Shafaq News that
efforts to bring weapons under state control remain unresolved, with no firm
deadline in place.
