Senegal’s hidden debt crisis and attempts to resolve it

February 2025 – The Court of Auditors confirms Sall’s government understated debt and deficit figures, pegging end-2023 debt at 99.7% of GDP, well above previously reported 74.41%, implying hidden borrowing of around $7 billion. Senegal says it will investigate alleged malfeasance and targets a new IMF programme by June.
