France secured top spot in Group I at the FIFA World Cup after defeating Norway 3-1 on Friday evening.

The French got off to the perfect start when Kylian Mbappe did well to pick out Ousmane Dembele, who weaved his way into the box before rifling the ball into the top corner after just seven minutes played.

The lead was doubled on 20 minutes via the same combination when Dembele collected a pass from Mbappe before carving out some space and finding the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

Norway hit back right away when Thelo Aasgaard got into the box and showed great composure to glide past one challenge before calmly slotting at the near post.

However, the first half belong to France and Dembele, who completed his hat-trick with 17 minutes left in the first half with another clinical left-footed strike.

The Norwegians had a chance to reduce the deficit five minutes after the break from the penalty spot but Jacob Strand Larsen was denied by Mike Maignan, before France got their fourth goal in stoppage time when Desire Doue nodded home Bradley Barcola’s cross.

Senegal 5-0 Iraq

Senegal secured third spot in Group I after thrashing Iraq 5-0 in Toronto.

The Senegalese the started they were after as Habib Diarra broke the deadlock with his first goal of the tournament in the fourth minute.

It got worse for Iraq when they reduced to ten players after Rebin Sulaka was given a straight red card for bringing down Sadio Mane, who was through on goal.

The Lions of Teranga took control in the second half as Ismaila Sarr pounced on an error from the Iraq defence before keeping his composure to slot home on 56 minutes.

The lead was extended three minutes later when Sarr turned provider to pick out Pape Gueye, who rifled the ball home to get his first World Cup goal.

Senegal refused to take their foot off the pedal and added two more goals thanks to another strike from Gueye before Iliman Ndiaye got his first goal of the competition to round off the scoring with eight minutes to play.
