On August 31, 2026, in Bishkek, on the eve of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit, at the initiative of the Egyptian side, a meeting took place between SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev and Deputy Prime Minister of the Arab Republic of Egypt Hussein Eissa.
The parties discussed the prospects for developing cooperation between the SCO and Egypt.
Deputy Prime Minister highly appreciated the SCO’s role in promoting multilateral cooperation and expressed his country’s interest in expanding practical ties with the Organisation.
Among the promising areas he noted economic development, transport and logistics, energy and water resources management, higher education and personnel training, tourism and infrastructure development, as well as counter-terrorism.
Special attention was paid to Egypt’s participation in consultations on the establishment of the SCO Development Bank. Hussein Eissa emphasised the importance of shaping the future institution’s own “niche” and modern financing instruments.
Nurlan Yermekbayev underscored the significant potential for practical cooperation and informed the Egyptian side about the opportunities offered by the SCO’s existing working mechanisms and platforms.
The parties confirmed their mutual interest in the further development of dialogue and concrete cooperation.
