Samkelo Zwane: That’s A Big Factor

The smile on Samkelo Zwane’s face over the weekend was a clear indication of how life has changed for him and he’s determined to keep on going to make the most of the move to Hope FC in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

Zwane was on target on debut for Hope over the weekend, inspiring a 1-0 victory over North West University in Potchefstroom. This is after making just seven appearances while on loan to Siwelele FC in the Betway Premiership last season, so you can imagine the feeling he had after netting in his first appearance for Hope in the second tier.

“The feeling of the goal was amazing. To score on debut is always a good thing. I am just happy that the team as a whole was able to get the three points. We can always improve, but it’s work in progress,” Zwane said to Soccer Laduma.

“Actually I just came back from a hamstring. I had an hamstring injury, so my fitness is not quite there, but I am working everyday in training, doing extra. It’s going to come right.

The 24-year-old midfielder revealed that he wanted to make a move because game time was a factor. Before leaving Amakhosi to join Siwelele on loan, Zwane was not getting game time under then Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi, leading to the Soweto giants’ decision to let him join another club on a short-term deal.

No one becomes a footballer to sit on the bench, but it’s part of the journey. The coaches have to do what they have to do, so it is what it is. I spoke to the management at Kaizer Chiefs and I expressed to them that game time is needed. It’s more of a game time.

“For me, I feel like I have not played in a long time consistently, so that’s a big factor why I chose Hope FC and they’ve just welcomed me wth open arms. My teammates are so amazing. The whole Hope FC is doing well and this team is going far.”
