Russia unveils S-71 missiles for Su-57 in Egypt
Russia’s state arms exporter Rosoboronexport unveiled the S-71M and S-71K missiles for the Su-57 fighter jet at an air show in El Alamein, Egypt. Russia is an aggressor state. The fifth-generation Su-57 also took part in an air show on the African continent for the first time, The Jerusalem Post reports.
S-71 missiles on display
The S-71M and S-71K were displayed in the Russian section of the airfield near El Alamein International Airport, located on the Mediterranean coast. According to specialized defense publications, these models combine the characteristics of cruise missiles and low-cost strike drones.
A Rosoboronexport representative who spoke to Reuters on condition of anonymity said this was the first public demonstration of the missiles. He also said they had previously been used in combat operations and described the products as combining features of a drone and a missile.

El Alamein air show
The Su-57 conducted a demonstration flight over desert terrain near the airport. The export version of this fighter jet had previously been displayed in China, India and the United Arab Emirates. Ukraine stated that it struck a Su-57 at an airbase on Russian territory in 2024.
The El Alamein air show was held for the second time and was intended to present Egypt as a gateway to the defense markets of Africa and the Middle East. China displayed the J-16 fighter jet at the exhibition; several weeks earlier, it had taken part in joint exercises with Egypt, marking this aircraft’s first deployment in Africa.
Companies from Turkey, the UAE and Egypt were also represented at the event. Their stands were visited by military delegations, including those from Sierra Leone, Tanzania and Kuwait. Mohamed El-Sayed, a consultant for the Egyptian private defense company Amstone International Group, noted that the number of visitors reflects interest in Egypt as an entry point to African and Arab defense markets.
