Russia Launches 99 Drones, Enterprise Struck in Sumy Region, Two Injured


Russian forces launched a drone attack against Ukraine the night of Friday-Saturday, June 20. Ukrainian air defenses intercepted the majority of the incoming targets, though a strike in the Sumy region resulted in civilian casualties and property damage.

Drone strike in Trostianets injured two

Late Friday night, a Russian drone struck an enterprise in the town of Trostianets, located in the Sumy region. According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (DSNS), the impact caused a fire at the facility, which rescue teams subsequently contained and extinguished.

A 40-year-old man sustained physical injuries and was hospitalized for treatment and a 42-year-old woman experienced an acute stress reaction and is receiving outpatient medical care.

Nationwide interceptions

The strike in Trostianets was part of a broader aerial assault. The Ukrainian Air Force reported that between 6:00 p.m. on June 19 and 8:00 a.m. local time on June 20, Russian forces launched a total of 99 attack drones. The launch included Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas types, alongside “Parody” decoys, originating from the Russian cities of Orel, Bryansk, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk.

Ukrainian defense operations – utilizing aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, mobile fire groups, and electronic warfare units – shot down or suppressed 92 of the incoming drones across the northern, southern, and eastern regions of the country.

According to preliminary Air Force data, seven drones breached the defenses and hit targets across three locations. Additionally, falling debris from intercepted drones was recorded in three locations.

Guided aerial bombs hit Kharkiv

On Friday evening, June 19, Russian tactical aircraft targeted Kharkiv with guided aerial bombs (KABs).

Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov confirmed that the munitions struck the city’s Kholodnohirskyi district. One bomb hit a two-story residential apartment building, causing a structural collapse.

“Four people may be under the rubble. At this moment, five people are known to have been injured,” Terekhov reported on social media.

Emergency response teams and municipal services were deployed to the impact zone. Search and rescue operations are active as crews work to clear the debris.
