Russia Fired 2,100 Drones and 78 Missiles This Week, Zelensky Says
Russian forces launched approximately 2,100 strike drones, 78 missiles of various types, and nearly 1,700 guided aerial bombs against Ukraine over the past week, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Sunday, Sept. 13.
Zelensky emphasized that a substantial portion of the unmanned aerial vehicles deployed in recent days consisted of high-speed, jet-powered Shahed drones, which Moscow utilized to systematically batter Ukraine’s domestic economy, critical utilities, and civilian life.

“Just this week, Russia has launched about 2,100 drones against Ukraine,” Zelensky stated.
“A significant portion of them are specifically jet-powered Shaheds, with which the Russians are trying to break the economy and destroy people’s lives. The enemy also used almost 1,700 guided aerial bombs and 78 missiles of various types.”
Weekend assaults on railways, energy, and border infrastructure
The president highlighted that overnight and early morning bombardments on Sunday struck national energy facilities, the Ukrzaliznytsia railway network, commercial enterprises, and residential buildings across multiple provinces.
In the southern port city of Odesa, Russian forces carried out sustained combined missile and drone strikes that damaged residential high-rises, warehouses, and a botanical garden, injuring at least five civilians.
Zelensky noted that emergency and utility crews were actively conducting restoration operations across numerous western regions following overnight strikes.

He referenced emergency interventions underway in the Volyn region near the Ukrainian-Polish border, where falling munitions damaged a commercial filling station and Russian fire struck the locomotive of a passenger train traveling from Kyiv to Warsaw just two kilometers from the frontier.
The border strikes in Volyn coincided with drone impacts on transport and industrial infrastructure in the western regional center of Ternopil, as well as strikes on residential property in Konotop, Sumy region, injuring civilians across both locations.
Containing the threat to European borders
Framing the escalating aerial onslaught as an acute challenge to the broader European security architecture, Zelensky warned that the international community must recognize Russian strikes near allied borders as a shared threat requiring decisive joint action.
“It is precisely to prevent these strikes from going further into Europe that Ukrainian men and women fight every day, give their lives, and prevent aggression from expanding,” Zelensky emphasized.
“Russian terrorism is a common threat to many, but it can and definitely must be defeated in Ukraine.”
