Russia Captured More Territory Than Ukraine Reclaimed in July, DeepState Reports
Russian forces captured more Ukrainian territory than Ukraine’s Defense Forces reclaimed in July, the OSINT project DeepState reported.
According to DeepState’s map data on Sunday, Russian forces advanced by a total of 36 square kilometers (14 square miles) in July.

Due to delays in reporting data, the actual increase in occupied territory could reach 88 square kilometers (34 square miles), as July figures included 52 square kilometers (20 square miles) of occupation recorded for May and June.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Defense Forces reduced the area of Russian-occupied territory, with 25 square kilometers (10 square miles) attributed in May and 27 square kilometers (10 square miles) in June.
Ukrainian forces have also advanced in two other areas, covering at least 49 square kilometers (19 square miles) and 83 square kilometers (32 square miles). DeepState said more details would be released in an official announcement.
The delay in publishing these figures is due to operational security measures intended to ensure the successful completion of Ukrainian military operations.
However, DeepState said the situation remains most difficult near Rodynske, Kostiantynivka, along the state border, and in the directions of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk.
May’s record combat engagements
Despite recording the highest number of combat engagements since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion – more than 7,000 – in May, Ukraine’s Defense Forces regained control of an area 120 square kilometers (46 square miles) larger than the territory captured by Russian forces, DeepState noted.

In May, Russian forces took control of approximately 130 square kilometers (50 square miles), compared with 150-160 square kilometers (58-62 square miles) the month prior.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Defense Forces regained control and eliminated Russian advances across an area of about 250 square kilometers (96 square miles), while in April they liberated 80 square kilometers (31 square miles).
As a result, the balance between lost and regained territory was approximately 120 square kilometers (46 square miles) in favor of Ukraine’s Defense Forces.
