Rivers, Rangers, El-Kanemi set for 2026 NPFL Invitational Tournament
2025-26 Nigeria Premier Football League Runners up, Rivers United will clash with Plateau United in the opening game of the 2026 NPFL Invitational Preseason Tournament today in Jos.
The draw format for the Invitational Preseason Tournament was released yesterday ahead of the five-day competition holding between August 19th and 23rd at the New Jos City Stadium, Plateau State.
Six clubs will compete in the tournament, which is designed to provide valuable preparation ahead of the 2026/27 NPFL season and CAF inter-club campaigns.
The competition is expected to give the participating clubs an opportunity to sharpen their match fitness, assess new and existing players and fine-tune their tactical plans before the new league season begins.
The tourney will also aid the preparations of three of the four clubs representing Nigeria on the continent with the exception of Shooting Stars who were barred from participating after the club signified its intention to mix their first team players with some of their academy players.
While the group stage will run from Wednesday, August 19, to Friday, August 21, with each team playing two matches, the participating teams have been divided into two groups of three.
Group A: Rivers United; Plateau United; Rangers International
Group B:El-Kanemi Warriors; Mighty Jets; Katsina United
