FC Copenhagen have paid approximately €800,000 (approximately R15 million) to Sundowns for the transfer of Thapelo Maseko, according to Danish publication Bold.
The 22-year-old winger was presented by the Danish capital club on Tuesday morning, with Bold revealing the financial details of the deal that brings the South African international to Europe.
The publication describes the fee as “a modest transfer fee for the South African, who FCK has had on its radar recently,” suggesting Copenhagen have secured a bargain for a player who impressed for the African champions.
Thapelo Maseko has signed a contract with FC Copenhagen until the summer of 2030, committing his long-term future to the Danish outfit as they prepare for both domestic and European competition.
Last week, Bold reported that FC Copenhagen had reached an agreement with Mamelodi Sundowns on a deal after Maseko himself indicated that he wanted the move to the Danish club.
Director of Football Kristjaan Speakman has entered the final weeks of the summer transfer window, with Maseko representing one of several deals expected to be completed before the window closes.
For Sundowns, the fee represents a relatively modest return for a player who was part of their CAF Champions League-winning squad, though the Brazilians may have been willing to facilitate the move to aid the player’s development in European football.
Maseko now faces the challenge of adapting to Danish football and proving his value in one of Scandinavia’s most competitive leagues.
