With Relebohile Mofokeng set to complete a move to Belgium from Orlando Pirates, Soccer Laduma looks at some of the most successful South Africans to have played in the country. 

Mofokeng did not travel back to South Africa with the rest of his Bafana Bafana teammates after their last 32 exit from the FIFA World Cup, instead heading to Belgium to complete his medical with Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.

There are a number of South Africans who have played their football in Belgium and done well in the country.

Mofokeng will no doubt be looking to do well in Belgium and emulate the likes of Aaron Mokoena, Lyle Foster and Elrio Van Heerden, who secured moves to England after playing in the topflight.

Mofokeng received praise for his performances for Bafana Bafana during the World Cup campaign, but it’s believed Saint-Gilloise started making contact for the services of the player before the tournament started in June.

The Belgian club looks set to announce Mofokeng as their new player in the coming days, and he will join a long list of players who have played in the country.
