Redmi 17 5G: Release date, price, specs and more

The Redmi 17 5G is out, but which version you get depends on where you live. Xiaomi has made three different versions of this phone: one for China, one for global markets, and one for India. Redmi 17 5G release date

1. China

The Redmi 17 5G launched in China on August 6, 2026. Xiaomi sold it through its China online store without a big launch event.

2. Global

The global version went official on August 10, 2026, according to GSMArena. It launched first in Malaysia before rolling out to other markets.

3. India

Xiaomi announced the India version on September 3, 2026, and put it on sale from September 10, 2026. You can buy it online through mi.com and Amazon India, or in person at Xiaomi retail stores.

Redmi 17 5G price

1. China

The China version starts at CNY 999 for the 4GB/128GB model and CNY 1,199 for the 6GB/128GB model. These are promotional prices. The regular list prices are CNY 1,099 and CNY 1,299.

2. Global

Globally, the phone starts at $249 for the 4GB/128GB model. In Malaysia, early buyers can get the 4GB/128GB version for MYR 769 and the 4GB/256GB version for MYR 869.

3. India

In India, the Redmi 17 5G costs ₹23,999 for 6GB/128GB and ₹26,999 for 8GB/128GB. The 8GB model also supports memory extension up to 16GB.

4. Kenya

In Kenya, the phone is listed at KES 28,000.

5. South Africa

South Africa only has confirmed pricing for the 4G Redmi 17 so far, at R6,499. The 5G version hasn’t launched there yet.

6. Nigeria and Ghana

Nigeria and Ghana are still waiting on an official launch. What you’ll find on Jiji Nigeria right now is the 4G Redmi 17, selling for between ₦204,000 and ₦315,000 depending on storage. These are grey market imports rather than official Xiaomi listings, so prices move with exchange rates and import costs. If you’re shopping for one, check the chipset carefully so you don’t pay 5G prices for a 4G phone.

Redmi 17 5G specs

1. Design and display

The Redmi 17 5G has a 6.9-inch HD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The global and India versions get Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection and reach up to 825 nits of brightness. The China version peaks at 800 nits, and reports haven’t specified which glass protects its screen.

It comes in Absolute Black and Endless Blue, plus an Eternal Orange model with a vegan leather back and gold frame. It also has a customizable RGB light strip on the back for calls and notifications.

2. Performance

The global and India models run on the Snapdragon 4 Gen 5, a 4nm chip built for everyday tasks rather than heavy gaming. The China model uses a Unisoc T8300 chip instead, which is a step down in performance.

All versions run HyperOS 3 on Android 16. Xiaomi says the software is built to stay smooth for up to 48 months of regular use.

3. Camera

The global and India versions have a 50MP main camera paired with a second lens, plus an 8MP front camera for selfies and video calls. The China version keeps things simpler, with a single 13MP rear camera and the same 8MP front camera.

4. Battery and charging

This is where the three versions differ the most. The China model has a 6,300mAh battery with 15W charging. The global model steps up to 7,500mAh with 45W charging. The India model goes even bigger, with a 7,900mAh battery and 45W charging.

All three support reverse wired charging, so you can use your phone to charge other devices too.

5. Connectivity and other features

The Redmi 17 5G supports NFC and a side fingerprint scanner, plus face unlock. It also keeps the 3.5mm headphone jack and stereo speakers with up to 300% volume boost.

Reports disagree on a few details. Some list Wi-Fi 5 for the global version, while others say Wi-Fi 6. Bluetooth also varies: the China model reportedly uses Bluetooth 5.4, while the global model uses Bluetooth 5.1. All versions carry an IP64 rating for dust and splash resistance.

The new phone has a bigger battery and faster charging, plus newer software. But it takes a step back on the screen. The Redmi 15 5G had a sharper Full HD+ display running at 144Hz, while the Redmi 17 5G uses a lower-resolution HD+ screen at 120Hz.

The chipset change isn’t a straightforward upgrade either. The Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 in the new phone is newer and more power-efficient, but it sits below the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 that powered the Redmi 15 5G in raw performance.

If you already own a Redmi 15 5G and mainly want longer battery life, the Redmi 17 5G is worth considering. If you care more about screen quality, you may want to stick with what you have or look elsewhere.

Should you buy the Redmi 17 5G?

This phone makes the most sense if battery life matters most. The 7,500mAh global battery and the 7,900mAh India battery, paired with 45W charging, beat most phones in this price range. You also get a 3.5mm jack and expandable storage, plus an IP64 rating for dust and splash protection.

You may want to skip it if you care more about screen sharpness or camera flexibility. The HD+ display and modest camera setup aren’t the strongest in this price bracket, and the older Redmi 15 5G actually had a sharper screen.

Confirm which version you’re getting before you buy. The China model runs weaker hardware across the board, so don’t expect the same experience as the global or India versions.

If you’re shopping in Nigeria or Ghana, hold off for now. The 5G version hasn’t launched officially in either market, and most units you’ll find are grey market 4G imports at prices that shift often.
