Carlos Reveals Devastating Financial Loss
Speaking at a panel on building a legacy in football, Carlos opened up about the errors that nearly left him with nothing, according to Portuguese publication Record.
“I had problems with people who left my account at zero. Because of agents and family issues, I lost 99 per cent of everything I had earned in football. I made mistakes and, because of that, I ask the younger ones not to do the same,” Carlos said.
“I had a serious problem with my former agent. On a Thursday I went to sleep at midnight and, on Friday, I received a pile of papers I didn’t even know existed. That’s when I lost my entire history,” he added.
According to GOAL, Carlos is believed to have earned approximately €160 million (R2.98 billion) during his playing career that spanned 21 years, although he is predominantly known for his successful spell with Real Madrid.
By his estimation, that means his losses amount to approximately €158.4 million (R2.95 billion).
Carlos Credits Entourage for Recovery
Carlos revealed that business partner Paul Brighten and Entourage Sport and Entertainment helped reorganise his financial and family life.
“Paul reorganised my life. With Entourage I managed to restructure my financial and family life,” he said.
The Brazilian urged young players to plan for life after football, saying: “I always thought about plans for the future. It’s about building a story for yourself as a player and using your image.”
