The portfolio adds to a growing pipeline of Chinese-built clean energy capacity in North Africa.

POWERCHINA Expands Its Egypt Wind Portfolio

The 1.8 GW of wind projects spans several developments along the Gulf of Suez: the 500 MW Amunet wind farm, which is operational and received its acceptance certificate ahead of the contractual deadline; the 1.1 GW Suez Wind project, now under construction, where the company installed its first turbine earlier in 2026; and the 202.5 MW Ras Ghareb project, also under construction. Egypt has set targets to raise the share of renewables in its power mix and has courted foreign developers to build large onshore wind farms.

Adding Energy Storage and Local Manufacturing

Alongside the turbines, the company is expanding into energy storage, which helps smooth wind output and keep supply steady when the wind drops. Pairing wind with battery storage has become common on large projects. The plan also includes local manufacturing: a Sungrow energy storage factory on a 50,000-square-meter site at Ain Sokhna, where construction began in August 2026.
