Power restored to key water fields after outage in southern Libya

Electricity has been restored to major wellfields supplying the Man-Made River system after a widespread outage disrupted water production, officials say.

The Man-Made River Authority said power returned to the Hasawna and Sarir wellfields at 18:30 on Saturday, allowing maintenance teams to begin restarting wells once the grid stabilised.

In a statement, the authority said 155 wells in the Hasawna field had already resumed operations, with efforts continuing to bring remaining wells back online gradually. Work is also under way to restart the Sarir field, while operations at the Tazerbo wellfield remain dependent on the return of electricity.

The outage, which the authority said was beyond its control, affected multiple facilities earlier in the day, including the Sarir and Tazerbo fields, the Ajdabiya reservoir and a pumping station in Suluq. A separate early-morning outage also shut down wells in the Hasawna field.
