PM attends opening session of AU extraordinary Summit in Angola

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, attended on Sunday, August 30, 2026, the opening session of the African Union’s (AU) extraordinary Summit on strengthening mechanisms for conflict prevention and resolution in Africa.

The Summit , hosted by Angola, is being held at the Luanda Conference Center in the Angolan capital, in the presence of Mohamed Abu Bakr, Deputy Foreign Minister for African Affairs, and Nevine El-Husseiny, Egypt’s Ambassador to Angola.

The opening session was attended by Angolan President João Lourenço, Burundian President and African Union Chairperson Évariste Ndayishimiye, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, as well as a number of African heads of state and government.

The session opened with playing the national anthem of Angola followed by the African Union’s anthem.

This was followed by key speeches by Lourenço, the host country’s President; Youssouf, the African Union Commission Chairperson; and Ndayishimiye, the Burundian President and African Union Chairperson, on ways to support and strengthen peace, security and development across Africa.

The opening session concluded with a group photograph of African heads of state and government, along with African Union Commission officials attending the extraordinary summit.
