PDP Mourns Bamanga Tukur, Says Death Is Great Loss to Nigeria

The Peoples Democratic Party has mourned the death of its former National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Mahmud Tukur, describing his passing as a profound loss to Nigeria.

Tukur, a former Governor of the old Gongola State, died on Saturday at the age of 90, two days before his 91st birthday.

In a condolence statement signed by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Jungudo Mohammed, the party described Tukur as a distinguished statesman, elder, administrator, businessman and committed member of the party.

The PDP said the deceased had an outstanding public service career spanning several decades, during which he served as Governor of old Gongola State between October and December 1983.

He subsequently served the country as Minister of Industries and as Chief Executive/General Manager of the Nigerian Ports Authority.

Beyond public service, the party noted that Tukur distinguished himself in the private sector and international business community.

He served as President of the Africa Business Roundtable and Chairman of the NEPAD Business Group, among other prominent positions.
