Panama Coach Wants His Team To Be ‘Morocco of This World Cup’

Rabat – Recalling the Atlas Lions’ historic run in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Panama’s coach wants his squad to be the “Morocco of this [2026 FIFA] World Cup.”

Telemundo quoted Thomas Christiansen, who said he is putting no limits on his national team ahead of the world’s biggest tournament, which is kicking off on June 11.

“Why not be the Morocco of this World Cup?” he said. Panama is in Group L with Ghana, Croatia, and England. Its opener will be against Ghana on June 18.

Morocco has become a model for teams that could make the impossible possible through dedication and discipline.

The Atlas Lions emerged as a strong contender in the 2022 FIFA World Cup when they defeated strong teams like Spain and Portugal and became the first African and Arab team to secure a spot in the semi-finals of the tournament.

Since then, Morocco’s football reputation and perception of the Atlas Lions have risen, with every coach and every squad across the world aware of the team as a powerhouse in football.

Morocco is going to the World Cup with the same spirit, with a lineup featuring both strategic players and new faces that the new head coach, Mohamed Ouahbi, is seeking to see grow and prosper in the tournament.

Ahead of the World Cup, Morocco is playing against Madagascar and Norway in two upcoming friendlies. Madagascar vs Morocco is coming on June 2 and will take place at 6 p.m., while Morocco vs Norway is on June 7.

A few days later, Morocco will mark its opening game against Brazil as part of the tournament’s group stage.

Both Morocco and Brazil are in Group C, alongside Scotland and Haiti.
