Orange Liberia fined after number recycling leads to data breach
The Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) has imposed a LRD 4 million fine on telecom operator Orange Liberia for negligent and unauthorized issuance of a customer’s Sim card to a third party. The regulator said the issue resulted in privacy and communication breach. In February 2024, Orange Liberia wrongfully reassigned Zelah Johnson’s mobile number to an unauthorized third party without her consent.
