Donald “Don” Ray Hart, age 76, of Sanford, NC, passed away Friday, May 8, 2026 at The FirstHealth Hospice House in Moore County.
He was born in Lee County, NC on October 25, 1949 to the late James Auclas Hart and Elaine Oldham Hart. Don is survived by his beloved wife Linda Jefferson Hart; sons Daren Hart (Melissa), Daniel Hart (Amy); step-sons Gary Potts (Heather), Patrick Godwin (Danielle), Justin Godwin (Thom); sisters Gail Hart Marcinko, Jill Hart Homesley; grandchildren Dane Godwin, Arleigh Godwin, Alexis Hart, Avery Hart; sister-in-law Andrea Smith (Chad); nephews Brian Keck, Aaron Gilmore, Jason Gilmore and furry-companions Max & Boomer.
Don was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother who valued family, hard work, and faith. He believed in working hard, and providing for those he loved. He worked many years, as a machinist, for Manhattan America Terrazzo Strip Company. He served our country in the United States Marine Corp. for six years.
He was known as a strong man with a sharp mind and a talent for working with his hands. He enjoyed fixing, and figuring things out, and there wasn’t much he couldn’t do once he set his mind to it. He took pride in doing things well.
More than anything, he loved his family. Don was someone his family could always count on. He enjoyed time with his children and grandchildren and leaves behind many memories they will carry with them. He was a devoted and loving caregiver for his wife, Linda. They enjoyed traveling in the motorhome, fishing and watching Westerns, especially Gunsmoke.
His family is thankful for the example he set through his faith, work ethic, and the life he lived.
The family will receive friends at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 from 1:00 PM to 2:50 PM. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM in the Chapel with Pastor Terry McInnis officiating. Burial will follow at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.
