Oakdale man sentenced to federal prison for impersonating DEA Agent

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KALB) – John Gueringer, 51, of Oakdale was sentenced to 36 months in federal prison, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Louisiana announced Friday, August 14.

Gueringer pleaded guilty to impersonating a federal officer during an interaction with Oakdale Police Department in July 2024.

On July 22, 2024 officers had reportedly responded to a domestic disturbance at a home in Oakdale. At the scene, they found a visibly upset woman with scratches on her body.

They said Gueringer approached them wearing a lanyard that appeared to contain an authentic badge for the Drug Enforcement Agency and claimed to belong to the agency. He then told officers to contact the DEA in an attempt to block their investigation and avoid arrest.

Investigators later determined Gueringer was not affiliated with the DEA and he confessed that he was trying to mislead law enforcement.
