NPFL Set For Historic $7.5m Title Sponsorship – Independent Newspaper Nigeria

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) is on the brink of securing one of the biggest commercial deals in its history, with Chairman Gbenga Elegbeleye confirming that a new title sponsor would be unveiled ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Speaking during an interview from Glasgow, Scotland, Elegbeleye disclosed that negotiations with the prospective sponsor had reached an advanced stage, with the official announcement expected before the league’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on August 7. According to reports, the three-year agreement is worth more than $7.5 million, a landmark investment expected to transform the commercial outlook of the NPFL.

Elegbeleye explained that beyond acquiring the league’s naming rights, the new partnership would play a key role in strengthening the NPFL’s digital footprint. He revealed that the league is working on an ambitious strategy to expand its social media presence through influencers, innovative digital content, and fan-focused campaigns aimed at attracting younger audiences.

As part of the league’s broader rebranding efforts, the NPFL chairman also disclosed that discussions have been held with several leading Nigerian entertainers, who have agreed in principle to support the league’s fan engagement initiatives. The entertainers are expected to attend selected NPFL matches and participate in promotional activities designed to increase public interest and improve the league’s visibility nationwide.

To sustain this momentum, the NPFL plans to establish a dedicated social media department comprising experienced sports journalists, digital content creators, and young media professionals. The department will be responsible for producing engaging content, promoting clubs and players, and ensuring the league maintains a strong and consistent online presence throughout the season.

Elegbeleye further reaffirmed the league’s commitment to maintaining the August-to-May football calendar, describing it as a major step towards professionalism and alignment with international football standards. He urged all participating clubs to complete their club licensing requirements before the new campaign begins, stressing that the league is determined to ensure a smooth and timely start to the 2026/27 season.

With a record-breaking sponsorship deal on the horizon, a renewed focus on digital innovation, and ambitious plans to strengthen fan engagement, the NPFL appears set to usher in a new era that could redefine the future of professional football in Nigeria.
