NNL Confirms October 31 Kickoff for 2026/27 Season

The 2026/27 Nigeria National League season has been officially scheduled to kick off on Saturday, October 31, following confirmation from league organizers.

League officials finalized the start date during the Annual General Meeting held in Owerri, where representatives gathered to lock in preparations for the upcoming campaign.

For the new season, participating clubs have been split into four separate groupings, split evenly between the north and south of the country: Southern Conference A, Southern Conference B, Northern Conference A, and Northern Conference B.

This conference-based structure is designed to keep competition sharp throughout the campaign, as clubs push for one of the coveted promotion spots into the Nigeria Premier Football League.

Under the format, whichever club finishes on top within each of the four conferences will earn direct promotion to the NPFL.

Beyond that, those four conference winners won’t be done once the regular season ends. They’ll go on to face each other in a knockout-style playoff to crown the outright NNL champion for the year.

Anticipation is already building around the new campaign, with numerous clubs expected to throw themselves into what promises to be a fiercely contested promotion battle.

This follows a similar path taken by last season’s success stories, Sporting Lagos, Inter Lagos, Doma United, and Ranchers Bees, all of whom clinched their own NPFL promotions at the close of the 2025/26 season and will now begin life in Nigeria’s top division.

Organizers say more information on scheduling and logistics will be shared with clubs in the lead-up to the October 31 start.
