Nnenna Orji wins Best Actress in Africa at Uganda Awards

Nollywood actress, Nnenna Orji, has been named Best Actress in Africa at the Breakthrough Awards Uganda, in recognition of her contribution to the African film and performing arts industry.

According to a statement shared with Saturday Beats, the award celebrates Orji’s outstanding talent, versatility and consistency in delivering compelling performances across different film roles.

The citation on the plaque described the actress as a performer whose work reflects “remarkable emotional depth, strong screen presence, and the ability to bring characters to life with authenticity and passion.”

It also commended her dedication, discipline and artistic excellence, noting that her performances have continued to inspire and entertain audiences across the continent.

Reacting to the honour in a video message, Orji expressed appreciation to the organisers and everyone who has supported her career.

“This is me saying a very big thank you to Breakthrough Awards Uganda for crowning me the Best Actress in Africa. I feel honoured and appreciated. Thank you so much,” she said.

The actress also congratulated other nominees and winners, while thanking Ugandan actor and model, Shali Ahmed, for his encouragement and support.

The recognition marks another milestone in Orji’s acting career, which began as a child actress. After taking a break from the screen to complete her education, earning a degree in Sociology and Anthropology from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, she returned to acting and has continued to build a reputation as one of the industry’s dependable performers.

Over the years, she has featured in several productions, including ‘Love for Nelson’, ‘Crossroads of the Heart’, ‘I Met an Angel’, ‘Healing Energy’, and ‘Pure Heart’.
