Nigerian woman unreachable after arriving in Doha
The family of 37-year-old Nigerian citizen Saratu Jibo Yusuf said they have been unable to contact her since her arrival in Doha, Qatar. According to relatives, on September 1, the woman flew from Lagos on Qatar Airways flight QR1408. She last spoke with her brother, Jonathan Jibo, via WhatsApp while still on board the plane, using Wi-Fi.
According to Premium Times Nigeria, a family acquaintance was waiting for Yusuf at the airport but could not find her. The relatives contacted the airline and the airport, where they were told that the passenger had collected her luggage and left the terminal.
Family appeal
Jonathan Jibo raised the alarm on Thursday after 48 hours had passed without contact with his sister. He asked for surveillance camera footage to be checked and for authorities to establish who Yusuf was seen with after leaving the airport. Information about the case was also passed to Nigerian authorities and the Nigerian Embassy in Doha.

According to her brother, this was Yusuf’s first trip outside Nigeria. The family had booked and paid for her accommodation in advance, and the woman was due to start work in Doha a few weeks after her arrival. He also noted that she had worked at Lagos airport for nearly 12 years and financed the trip herself.
Checks continue
Michael Achimugu, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, said he had contacted Qatar Airways. According to information he received, camera footage shows that Yusuf arrived, collected her luggage and left the terminal.
It is now being checked whether she arrived at the booked hotel and whether she used the hotel’s transfer service. Achimugu conveyed the family’s concerns about possible human trafficking or forced labor to the airline but did not claim that this had happened. Qatar Airways told Yusuf’s brother that it was contacting its team to clarify the circumstances. As of Sunday morning, there was no confirmation that the woman had been found.
