Nigeria U-20 coach says win over China is necessary
In Poland, Moses Aduku, the head coach of Nigeria’s women’s U-20 national team, said that the team must beat China in the second match of Group F at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in order to keep its chances of reaching the playoffs alive. The Nigerians, known as the Falconets, began the tournament with a 0-2 defeat to Spain.
As Premium Times Nigeria reports, Aduku acknowledged the unsuccessful result of the opening game but stressed that the players have already focused on the meeting with China. According to him, any result other than a victory would put the team’s qualification chances at risk.
Working on mistakes
The coach named two key problems in the match against Spain: the team failed to convert the chances it created, and there were also communication difficulties on the pitch. Aduku said the team worked on these shortcomings in training before the game against China.

Spain, which the publication calls the 2022 world champion, scored against Nigeria through goals from Marisa García and Alba Serrato. The Falconets now need to improve their attacking play to earn their first points of the tournament.
Reinforcement in attack
Forward Janet Akekoromowei, a new player for SL Benfica’s women’s team, joined Nigeria’s national team in Poland. Her arrival gives the coaching staff another option in attack, and she may start in the match against China.
Aduku also said that changes in the Nigeria Football Federation have not affected the national team’s preparations. In his view, the situation in the group will become clearer after the second round. In addition to China and Spain, New Caledonia is also competing in Group F.
