Nigeria lose to Hungary at Women’s Basketball World Cup

Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, lost to Hungary 67:71 in Berlin, Germany, in a match at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026. It was the Nigerian team’s second consecutive defeat at the tournament following a loss against South Korea.

As Premium Times Nigeria reports, the Hungarian national team took the lead at the start of the game. It won the first quarter 21:13 and extended its advantage to 36:26 by halftime.

Deficit before the final quarter

After the third quarter, Nigeria trailed by ten points, 42:52. In the final period, D’Tigress improved offensively and outscored their opponents 25:19, but were unable to erase the earlier deficit. Hungary held onto the lead and secured a four-point victory.

Nigeria’s top scorers

Amy Okonkwo scored the most points for D’Tigress, with 17. She also recorded six rebounds and two assists in 29 minutes and 46 seconds on the court. Ezinne Kalu posted 11 points, three rebounds and nine assists, the best assist total in the game.

Efe Balogun scored 13 points and added four rebounds and three assists. Victoria Macaulay, who came off the bench, scored 11 points in 17 minutes and 4 seconds. Murjanatu Musa added 10 points, four rebounds and one assist. After two matches, Nigeria have yet to record a win at the tournament.
