Niger Mosque Abductions: DIG Olaiya To Coordinate Rescue Operations – Independent Newspaper Nigeria

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Tunji Disu has deployed Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) in charge of zone 7, Victor Olaiya to coordinate the rescue of worshippers recently abducted by suspected armed bandits in Borgu, Borgu Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger state.

Rescue for the over thirty victims, mostly women and children, according to Niger state government will be conducted in collaboration with other security agencies to ensure that the victims were rescued and reunited with their respective famies unhurt.

Addressing journalists in government house on efforts being made to rescue the victims, Niger State Commissioner for Homeland Security, Mr. Maurice Bello Magaji, said the Governor Mohammed Umar Bago led administration will continue to provide security agencies with all the necessary support to nip in the bud all forms of security challenges.

Magaji, flanked by Wasiu A Abiodun, representing the state Commissioner of Police, Adamu Elleman, expressed regrets that some groups of individuals are trying to politicize issues of insecurity bedeviling the state and Nigeria generally.

The Commissioner while calling on the general public, rural communities in particular to support in the fight against terrorists, armed bandits and/or Fulani militia, reminded all that people with criminal intents are not ghosts, but live amongsts us and therefore should be exposed without which their evil intents will continue unabated in their respective domains.

Also speaking, Niger state Police Commissioner Adamu Abdullahi Ellema, speaking through the Command’s PPRO, Wasiu A. Abiodun appreciated Niger state government for providing security agencies with necessary support needed to succeed in its operations.

‘The rescue operations of abducted victims begins today in strict compliance with the directives of the IGP, Tunji Disu”, the Police Commissioner said, adding that they are currently analysing their intelligence and strategizing for a hitch free rescue mission.

All things being equal, CP Adamu said the Command will make good use of amongst other things, the counter terrorism unit and the EOD, provided by the IGP to aid their work, for effective delivery of the task.
