Niger Gas pledges to meet hospital oxygen demands in Enugu

The chief operating officer of Niger Gas, Amos Egesi, has assured hospitals in Enugu state that the company is ready to meet all their oxygen demands within the shortest possible time.

Mr Egesi said this on Tuesday while conducting members of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Enugu, round the facility.

The journalists were at the facility as part of the state government’s organised tour of projects being executed by Governor Peter Mbah’s administration.

“Currently, we produce about 80 cylinders in a day; by the time we begin to produce at 100 per cent full capacity, we will be producing not less than 400 cylinders every day. With that, all the hospital oxygen demands we have in the state will be met by Niger Gas,” Mr Egesi said.

He stated that the company started full operations four months ago, adding that traders have started coming from as far as Onitsha to book for the company’s products.

Mr Egesi explained that the company produces natural oxygen, medical oxygen, as well as Acetylene for welding. He commended the state government for the vision to revive the gas company, which became moribund since the eighties.

According to him, the company is creating jobs, while its existence has given life to the immediate community.

“This area has become a beehive of activities since we began operations as people now buy landed property, build houses and live around the environment.

“Economic activities have also increased due to the company’s operations,” he said.

The company is one of the projects established by the late Michael Okpara of the defunct Eastern Region government that the Enugu government is currently reviving.
