Niger Advances Construction of Local Electronics Plant for Smartphones, Computers and Tablets

Niger is advancing plans to establish a domestic electronics assembly industry, with an interministerial delegation inspecting progress at the future DHY Technologie assembly plant in Hamdallaye, Tillabery Region.

On Thursday, August 20, 2026, Niger’s Minister of Communication and New Information Technologies (MCNTI), Adji Ali Salatou, and Minister of Technical and Vocational Education and Training, Prof. Farmo Moumouni, visited the construction site to assess the progress of the project.

The government delegation included senior officials from the communication, education, trade and industry sectors, as well as regional authorities, representatives of technology and investment agencies and customary leaders from Hamdallaye.

The DHY Technologie facility is being developed as a domestic electronics assembly plant specialising in computers, tablets and smartphones. The project is intended to provide citizens and public institutions with locally assembled devices while building domestic technical expertise and reducing Niger’s dependence on imported electronic equipment.

During the visit, government officials commended the project’s promoter, Ibrahim Tahirou Aissata, for advancing what authorities described as an example of national entrepreneurship and technological development.

The initiative also incorporates an environmental component. The official visit concluded with a tree-planting exercise at the construction site, symbolically linking the development of the technology facility with sustainable development in the Tillabery Region.

Following a guided inspection of the facilities, the two ministers expressed satisfaction with the pace of construction. According to the authorities, the project had achieved more than 60% progress after six months of work, representing 57% of the overall project timeline and putting the facility on course for commissioning.
