The Coalition of youth leaders from Niger State on Monday purchased the Governorship Intent Form for aspirant Alhaji Yahya Muhammad Guregi, staging what they described as the formal launch of a grassroots movement ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial election.
The event took place at the NDC National Secretariat in Abuja, where representatives from the state’s 25 local government areas gathered to submit payment and collect the form. The action, they said, was intended to demonstrate broad-based support for Guregi’s candidacy before party primaries begin.
Leading the delegation was Hon. Albashir Aliyu Gidan Kwano, who contested for the Niger State House of Assembly in 2023 and was recognized as Nigeria’s youngest candidate in that election cycle. His presence underscored the youth-driven nature of the initiative.
Speaking after the submission, the group said the decision reflected a growing consensus among young people and stakeholders who believe Niger State requires experienced and accountable leadership to address persistent challenges in security, education, and infrastructure.
According to the youth leaders, the move went beyond routine political participation. They framed it as a response to demands from communities across the state for a candidate with a verifiable record of engagement and a clear plan for economic revitalization.
The group outlined priority areas for the proposed administration, including job creation, agricultural modernization, improved access to quality education, and investment in healthcare and rural infrastructure. Security and youth empowerment were also listed as non-negotiable items.
They argued that Guregi’s political experience and consistent outreach to grassroots communities position him as a candidate capable of translating policy into tangible outcomes. “This is a people-driven project built on sincerity, competence, and genuine passion for service,” the leaders stated.
The coalition further called on party officials, traditional rulers, women’s organizations, student bodies, and artisans to align with the movement. They said broad participation was necessary to ensure the campaign reflects the diversity of Niger State’s population.
Political observers in attendance described the coordinated effort as a significant early mobilization. While the 2027 election remains more than a year away, the event signals that youth blocs intend to play a decisive role in candidate selection and campaign dynamics.
Concluding the address, the group declared, “This is a defining moment in the political history of Niger State. The movement has begun, and together we can build a brighter future for generations to come.”
The statement was issued by the Niger State Concerned Youths under the leadership of Hon. Albashir Aliyu Gidan Kwano.
