Netflix set to broadcast Women’s World Cup draw in December

Netflix made a pretty big splash in late 2024 when the streaming service announced that it had won broadcast rights for the Women’s World Cup in 2027 and 2031.

While the streamer has been slowly stretching its legs into sports coverage in recent years with a few select NFL games, a small MLB package, and professional wrestling, the Women’s World Cup will represent the largest ongoing sporting event Netflix has carried thus far, with 64 matches being played across eight different host cities.

The tournament action doesn’t kick off until June 2027, but we’ll get our first real sense of Netflix’s broadcast setup a bit earlier than that. On Monday, the streamer announced that it would be presenting the final draw for the tournament in December live from Rio de Janeiro.

The draw will reveal the eight groups of four teams that will make up the field for the Women’s World Cup.

Between the success of this summer’s Men’s World Cup, which held the majority of its matches in the United States, and the prominence of the United States Women’s National Team, Netflix will undoubtedly have high expectations for viewership at the coming tournament.
