NECO Registrar Elected AEAA Vice-President As Nigeria Secures 2027 Conference –

The Registrar and Chief Executive of the National Examinations Council (NECO), Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, has been elected Vice-President of the Association for Educational Assessment in Africa (AEAA).

In a related development, Nigeria has secured the right to host the 2027 AEAA Conference in Abuja.

The decisions were endorsed by the AEAA General Assembly at its 42nd Conference held in Arusha, Tanzania.

The developments are expected to strengthen Nigeria’s influence in educational assessment in Africa, particularly as countries increasingly adopt digital technology and artificial intelligence in testing and certification.

Wushishi’s election followed his service on the AEAA Executive Council as representative of the West African sub-region.

Since becoming NECO Registrar in 2021, he has introduced reforms aimed at modernising examination administration, expanding the council’s technological capacity and strengthening its international presence.

Under his leadership, NECO examinations are now conducted in eight countries outside Nigeria.

The 2027 AEAA Conference is scheduled to hold from August 16 to 20, 2027, in Abuja.

The conference is expected to attract policymakers, researchers, examination administrators and education experts from across Africa, while providing Nigeria with an opportunity to showcase its reforms in educational assessment.

Wushishi, born on April 5, 1965, in Wushishi, Niger State, is a scholar of Science Education with specialisation in Chemistry Education.

Before his appointment as NECO Registrar, he held various academic and administrative positions at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, and the Federal University of Technology, Minna.

His reappointment as NECO Registrar by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu earlier this year was seen as recognition of his administrative and technological reforms.

His election as AEAA Vice-President and Nigeria’s successful bid to host the 2027 conference further reinforce the country’s growing role in shaping Africa’s educational assessment landscape.
