National Youth Orchestra of the United States (NYO-USA) Embarks on European Tour

Carnegie Hall announced a two-week tour of Europe by the National Youth Orchestra of the United States (NYO-USA), with stops in Berlin, Amsterdam, Aldeburgh (England), and Edinburgh (Scotland). The NYO-USA is comprised of nearly 100 teen musicians from 32 states and the District of Columbia. Following an opening concert at Carnegie Hall on July 31, the group has set out to tour Europe from August 1 to 13. Led by conductor Karina Canellakis, the summer 2026 program includes Barber’s Overture to The School for Scandal, Gershwin’s Piano Concerto in F featuring pianist Kirill Gerstein, and Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra. In Europe, NYO-USA makes its first stop at the Konzerthaus Berlin, for the Young Euro Classic. Subsequent venues include the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Snape Maltings Concert Hall in Aldeburgh, England, and Usher Hall in Edinburgh, Scotland. In preparation for their performances and tour, the musicians rehearsed at Purchase College, SUNY, where they took part in sectional rehearsals and master classes led by musicians from American professional orchestras. As the director of orchestras, Annapolis Symphony Orchestra Music Director José-Luis Novo prepared the ensemble ahead of the arrival of tour conductor Karina Canellakis and pianist Kirill Gerstein.
