Museveni Pledges Support for Angola’s Josefa Sacko FAO Director-General Bid

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has pledged Uganda’s support for Angola’s candidature of Josefa Sacko for the position of Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).

President Museveni committed during a meeting with Angola’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, who delivered a special message from Angolan President João Lourenço at Kisozi Farm in Gomba District.

The discussions focused on matters of mutual interest between Uganda and Angola, including Angola’s bid to have Sacko lead the United Nations agency responsible for food and agriculture issues globally.

President Museveni said Uganda would support the Angolan candidature, emphasising the importance of African countries working together to advance shared continental interests.

“We shall support Angola’s candidature because African solidarity is crucial in advancing our shared interests. Africans must continue standing together and supporting one another on issues of strategic importance to our continent,” President Museveni said.

State House said the Angolan minister led a delegation to Uganda to deliver President Lourenço’s message and engage with President Museveni on areas of cooperation between the two countries.

Sacko, an Angolan national, has previously served as the African Union Commissioner for Rural Economy and Agriculture and has been involved in agricultural development initiatives across the continent.

Her candidature for the FAO Director-General position comes at a time African countries continue calling for stronger representation in global institutions, particularly in areas such as food security, climate resilience and agricultural transformation.

President Museveni and the Angolan delegation also discussed broader issues of cooperation, with both sides reaffirming the importance of African solidarity and collaboration on matters affecting the continent.
