MP Promises Help For Residents Affected By Fire That Destroyed Superior Auto Parts | RJR News

Member of Parliament for St. Andrew East Central Dennis Gordon says he will be mobilising support for residents affected by Thursday’s blaze at Superior Auto Parts along Hagley Park Road.

Mr. Gordon said several houses in the vicinity of the auto dealership were affected.

The MP said he will be meeting with residents to assess the extent of the damage and determine what assistance is needed.

“The homeowners who are impacted, I’m waiting to meet with them to see what I can mobilise for them through through the various organs of government. But I’m really saddened for it because, again, commerce will be severely impacted and a good coporate citizen business has gone up in flames,” he bemoaned.

Praise for Fire Brigade 

In the meantime, Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie has commended the Jamaica Fire Brigade for its swift and sustained response to the massive fire at Superior Auto Parts on Thursday.

Firefighters battled the blaze for nearly six hours, with drought-related water shortages hampering their efforts.

The fire destroyed the facility and has affected the employment of at least 105 people.

Three firefighters were injured during the operation and taken to hospital for treatment.

Minister McKenzie said the Jamaica Fire Brigade was already stretched before the Superior Auto Parts fire, with firefighters battling bush fires in the hills of Mavis Bank, St. Andrew, with support from the Jamaica Defence Force.

He said the Brigade’s response demonstrates the commitment of firefighters, despite the challenging conditions.
