Morocco warns of forest Fire risk in Six Provinces
Moroccan authorities warned residents living near forests in six provinces on Friday of the risk of wildfires, urging them to exercise caution from today until next Tuesday.
According to the Turkish news agency Anadolu, the National Agency for Water and Forests stated that the provinces of Fahs-Anjra, Tangier-Assilah, Taounate, Taza, Essaouira, and Taroudant face an extreme risk—classified as “red level”—of forest fires.
The agency called upon citizens living near forest areas, as well as workers, vacationers, and visitors, to remain vigilant and avoid any activities that could spark a fire.
It added that 24 other provinces face a high risk—classified as “orange level”—of forest fires.
The agency urged citizens to immediately notify local authorities upon spotting any smoke or suspicious behavior, noting that the red level signifies extreme fire risk, while the orange level indicates a high risk requiring heightened caution.
Moroccan authorities had previously announced that 310 forest fires were recorded between the beginning of the year and July 20, destroying an estimated 1,850 hectares of land.
