Morocco U20 set to face Algeria in AFCON 2027 qualifiers

CASABLANCA, Morocco (MNTV) — Morocco’s under-20 national team will face Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt and Libya in the North African qualifying tournament for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

The draw, held in Cairo on Wednesday, placed Morocco in a competitive group that will determine which North African teams advance to the continental tournament in Ghana.

Morocco will open its qualifying campaign against Tunisia on Sept. 27 at the Suez Canal Stadium.

Three days later, the Atlas Cubs will meet regional rivals Algeria at the same venue in what is expected to be one of the key matches of the tournament.

Morocco will then take on hosts Egypt on Oct. 3 before completing its schedule against Libya on Oct. 6 at Ismailia Stadium.

The tournament carries additional importance because qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will also provide a pathway toward the FIFA U20 World Cup.

Morocco therefore faces a demanding schedule, with four matches to be played within 10 days and limited opportunities to recover between games.

The Atlas Cubs will be seeking enough points to reach the continental finals while also keeping their hopes of competing at the global U20 tournament alive.
