Morocco Takes Part in Lumière Summit

Morocco took part on Monday in the Lumière Summit, held in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, France, the first international summit dedicated to the future of cinema and animation, co-chaired by the President of the French Republic and the President of the Republic of Korea.

The summit brought together nearly 200 public officials, business leaders, creators, producers, distributors, representatives of digital platforms, video game professionals, emerging technology stakeholders and representatives of international organizations from more than 60 countries across the five continents, according to a joint statement by the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication and the Moroccan Cinematographic Center (CCM).

Morocco’s participation, marked by the presence of Abdelaziz El Bouzdaini, representing the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication in his capacity as Secretary-General of the Communication Department, and CCM Director Reda Benjelloun, fully reflects the Kingdom’s international cooperation efforts in the fields of cinema, audiovisual media and, more broadly, animation, the statement said.

It also shows Morocco’s determination to actively contribute to an international dialogue based on cooperation and the promotion of cultural diversity, the same source added.

On this occasion, Morocco joined the Lumière Alliance as a founding member, the statement said, adding that the Alliance will constitute the first global network bringing together national cinematographic institutions from around the world, enabling them to share their experiences, best practices and reflections on the major challenges facing the film industry.

The Kingdom intends to contribute its experience and expertise, as well as its strategic position as a crossroads between Africa, the Arab world, the Mediterranean and Europe.
