Rabat – Morocco’s Ministry of Economy and Finance has created a new Price and Competition Observatory within its Competition, Prices, and Compensation Directorate as part of a new restructuring of the ministry’s central services.
The changes were introduced through a decision published in the latest issue of the Official Gazette. The decision modifies a 2011 regulation governing the responsibilities and organization of departments and services under the ministry’s central directorates.
Under the new structure, the Competition, Prices, and Compensation Directorate will have four main departments. These include the Price Regulation and Compensation Department, the Competition Regulation Department, the Price and Competition Observatory, and the Domestic Market and Strategic Reserves Department.
The Price Regulation and Compensation Department will include three services responsible for regulated prices, professional tariffs and price approvals, and subsidized prices.
The Competition Regulation Department will include a service monitoring practices related to competition rules, a service overseeing economic concentration operations, and a competition monitoring service responsible for relations with regulatory bodies.
The newly created Price and Competition Observatory will have two services. One focused on statistics and data, and another responsible for price assessment and monitoring.
The structure is intended to strengthen the collection and analysis of economic data and allow the ministry to monitor price developments more regularly.
The Domestic Market and Strategic Reserves Department will include a service responsible for monitoring the supply of the domestic market and a service coordinating and monitoring strategic reserves.
The decision also maintains the General Affairs Service and the Information Technology Service under the direct supervision of the director of the Competition, Prices and Compensation Directorate.
The new organizational structure takes effect from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.
