Morocco repatriates 137 Sudanese migrants from Casablanca

On Friday, 137 undocumented Sudanese migrants were repatriated to their country of origin from Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca, as part of an operation coordinated by Moroccan authorities and the Sudanese embassy in Morocco.

The initiative falls within Morocco’s migration policy, which is rooted in a humanitarian approach aimed at upholding the rights and dignity of migrants, in line with royal directives.

Beyond the regularization of thousands of migrants, this strategy also gives those who wish to do so the opportunity to return voluntarily to their home countries.

Sudan’s ambassador to Morocco, Mawada Omar Hageltoam El Badawi, welcomed this first return flight, stressing that the migrants hope to contribute to the reconstruction and development of their country.

She expressed her gratitude to King Mohammed VI and to the Moroccan people for the support and facilities provided, which were essential to the success of the operation.

She also highlighted the exemplary nature of Morocco’s approach to migration, saying it could serve as a model for other African countries.

The diplomat further praised the welcome extended to Sudanese nationals in Morocco, reflecting the deep historical and cultural ties between the two nations.
