Morocco ranks among top 20 globally in public security

LIANYUNGANG / RABAT — Morocco has emerged as a continental benchmark for public safety and strategic governance, securing a position among the top 20 countries worldwide in the newly released Global Public Security Index (2025–2026).

Unveiled during the 2026 Conference of the Global Public Security Cooperation Forum held in Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province, China, the comprehensive report evaluated the public safety frameworks and operational capacities of 62 nations representing over 82 percent of the world’s population and more than 87 percent of global economic output. Morocco distinguished itself as the only African nation to make the published ranking of top performers, earning an overall score of 76.15 points and placing first across the African continent.

The Global Public Security Index evaluates nations on a 100-point scale across traditional safety metrics and emerging global threats. Morocco’s performance reflected balanced efficacy across all core assessment areas, with standout results in counter-terrorism and digital defense. The Kingdom registered its highest category score in counter-terrorism governance and threat mitigation with 87.45 points, placing ninth globally and highlighting Morocco’s proactive, intelligence-led security architecture. In response to modern cyber threats, the country also secured ninth place internationally in cybersecurity with 71.73 points, recognized for its national cyber defense mechanisms and resilience against tech-enabled crime. Indicators for public order and safety reached 73.82 points, while road and traffic safety recorded 71.50 points.
