Morocco PM urges no promises on 2030 World Cup final
Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch has urged the president of the Moroccan Football Federation, Fouzi Lekjaa, not to make public promises about hosting the 2030 men’s World Cup final in Casablanca. MyJoyOnline reports.
Lekjaa’s statement
During an event of a political party, Lekjaa said that Casablanca would have the “honour” of hosting the tournament’s decisive match. However, the venue for the final has not yet been determined. FIFA said the decision would be made later.
At a rally, Akhannouch told Lekjaa not to propose holding the final in Morocco until the matter had been discussed with the country’s partners, Spain and Portugal. The prime minister also said that campaign promises should not be used in an issue requiring agreement among the host countries.

Spain’s position
The 2030 men’s World Cup will be jointly hosted by Morocco, Spain and Portugal. At the same time, the first three matches of the tournament will be held in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay to mark the competition’s 100th anniversary.
President of the Spanish Football Federation Rafael Louzan had also previously said that the final should be held in Spain. He noted that no final decision had been made, but considered Spain’s capacity to host major events sufficient grounds for such a choice.
Morocco is building a proposed 115,000-seat stadium that could become the world’s largest football stadium. The renovated Bernabeu stadium in Madrid has a capacity of 83,000 spectators, while Spotify Camp Nou is expected to have a capacity of 105,000 after reconstruction is completed.
