Morocco, Denmark move to elevate ties with new strategic partnership

Denmark and Morocco reaffirmed the strategic nature of their bilateral relations on Friday in Copenhagen, expressing a shared determination to elevate ties to a new level.

The commitment was made during talks between Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen and Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita.

The two ministers highlighted the longstanding relations between the two kingdoms and agreed that Rasmussen would make an upcoming visit to Morocco to conclude a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening political dialogue.

Rasmussen stressed the importance of Denmark’s partnership with Morocco, describing the Kingdom as a «reliable partner» and a «driver for growth and development» in the region and across Africa.

The planned partnership will also seek to strengthen economic and trade ties in several sectors, including water technologies, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, agri-food and infrastructure.

The two ministers also highlighted the importance of Danish investment in Morocco and agreed to promote closer ties between companies and business communities through the creation of a Moroccan-Danish business council.

Migration will also form part of the new strategic partnership, with both countries seeking to build on their existing cooperation in this area through tailored mechanisms and tools.
