Morocco Braces for Temperatures Up to 44°C, Strong Winds

Agadir – Hot weather and strong gusts of wind will affect Morocco on Sunday and Monday, according to an orange alert bulletin issued by the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM).

Temperatures ranging between 40 and 44 °C are forecast in Fquih Ben Salah, Rehamna, Moulay Yacoub, Taounate, Ouezzane, Fez, Khemisset, Sidi Bennour, Youssoufia, Beni Mellal, Assa-Zag, Es-Semara, Tata, Taroudant, Kenitra, Sidi Kacem, Sidi Slimane, Khouribga, Settat, Chichaoua,  Kalaat Sraghna, and Marrakech on Sunday and Monday.

The DGM also forecast temperatures between 36 and 40 °C during the same period in Meknes, Guelmim, Sidi Ifni, Essaouira, Mediouna, Nouaceur, Rabat, Sale, Skhirate-Temara, El Jadida, Safi, Agadir-Ida-Ou-Tanane, Chtouka-Ait Baha, Inezgane-Ait Melloul, Tiznit, Benslimane, Berrechid, Casablanca, Mohammedia, Khenifra, and Larache.

Meanwhile, temperatures ranging between 38 and 41 °C are expected in Tan-Tan, Oued Ed-Dahab, Boujdour, Laayoune, and Tarfaya.

In addition to the high temperatures, strong wind gusts of 75 to 85 km/h are expected on Sunday in the prefectures of Fahs-Anjra and Tangier-Assilah, according to the DGM weather updates.

The alert comes as Morocco continues to experience periods of elevated temperatures across several regions of the country.
