Military Arrests 4 Suspected Terrorist Operatives, Informants in Yobe, Niger, Adamawa

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI and Operation Savannah Shield have recorded significant successes in ongoing counter-terrorism operations, arresting four suspected terrorist operatives and informants during separate intelligence-led operations in Yobe, Adamawa and Niger states.

The arrests, carried out in collaboration with local hunters and personnel of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), form part of sustained efforts by security forces to dismantle terrorist cells, disrupt support networks and strengthen security across the North-East and North-Central regions.

In Yobe State, troops of the 27 Task Force Brigade (Garrison), Operation HADIN KAI, arrested a suspected informant linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) during a stop-and-search operation along the Buni Gari–Buni Yadi road in Gujba Local Government Area.

Security sources said the suspect was apprehended on June 1 while troops were conducting routine patrols in the area. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was found with injuries believed to have resulted from previous contact with security forces.

The sources added that the suspect claimed to have relocated from Ganjarma village to a settlement along the Bara road axis, where he reportedly stayed for about 10 days before his arrest. Investigators are currently examining his alleged links to ISWAP and Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) elements operating in the area.

In a separate operation in Adamawa State, troops of the 232 Battalion, working alongside local hunters, arrested two suspected ISWAP members in Garkida community, Gombi Local Government Area.

The suspects were apprehended on June 1 following intelligence-driven efforts aimed at identifying individuals suspected of involvement in terrorist activities.

According to security sources, preliminary interrogation of the suspects yielded information relating to their alleged participation in previous terrorist attacks.

One of the suspects allegedly confessed to involvement in the abduction of schoolchildren in Mussa community and an attack on Leho village in Askira Local Government Area of Borno State. The second suspect reportedly admitted participating in an attack on Tellabala village in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

Military authorities said investigations were ongoing to verify the claims and establish any additional links to terrorist operations within the region.

Meanwhile, in Niger State, troops of the 221 Battalion, in collaboration with personnel of the Nigeria Immigration Service, arrested another suspected terrorist informant during a targeted operation in Koro community within the Kainji area of Borgu Local Government Area.

The operation, conducted under Operation Savannah Shield on May 30, followed intelligence reports regarding the suspect’s activities and movements.

Security sources alleged that the suspect served as an informant for Boko Haram elements and was involved in providing support during a previous terrorist attack in Kwankoso village.

Investigations further revealed that after the attack, the suspect allegedly fled to Shafashi before relocating to Kaoje in Kebbi State. He was subsequently tracked to Kainji in Niger State, where he was arrested by security operatives.

The suspect is currently in military custody while investigations continue to determine the extent of his alleged involvement in terrorist activities and identify possible accomplices.

Security authorities described the arrests as a major boost to ongoing counter-terrorism efforts, noting that disrupting intelligence and logistics networks remains critical to degrading the operational capabilities of terrorist groups.

They reaffirmed the commitment of security forces to sustaining intelligence-driven operations against terrorist elements and their collaborators, while urging members of the public to continue providing credible information to support ongoing security operations.
