Benson Mhlongo linked with a managerial role in Eswatini

Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Benson Mhlongo has been linked with a return to the dugout, with information reaching Soccer Laduma indicating he has emerged as a candidate for a coaching role in the Eswatini Premier League.

According to Siya sources, Mhlongo is being linked with the head coach position at Moneni Pirates ahead of the new season as the club continues its search for a new man to lead the team.

A source close to the situation confirmed that Moneni Pirates are actively recruiting a coach capable of guiding the club to continental football, although no names have been officially confirmed.

“I can’t really confirm that issue, but the team is in the process of looking for a coach. We are exploring all avenues to get someone who can take us to Africa. Our ambition is to qualify for African competition next season, so we’re looking for a coach who can help us achieve that.

“It could be anyone who has the qualities to take Moneni Pirates forward, so I can’t pinpoint any names at the moment. But I can confidently confirm that the club is in the process of appointing a new coach,” the source told Soccer Laduma.

When contacted for comment on whether the club had held discussions with Mhlongo, Moneni Pirates PRO Meluleki “Sluga” Simelane declined to confirm or deny the reports.

“No comment. You are a journalist, so I can’t put it that way. Out of respect, I’d rather not comment. If you have his contact, you can speak to him. But yes, we are in the process of looking for a coach,” Simelane told Soccer Laduma.

Soccer Laduma also made several attempts to reach Mhlongo for comment, but his cellphone was unavailable at the time of publication.

Should the move materialise, it would mark another coaching opportunity for the former Buccaneers midfielder, who has been working to establish himself on the touchline following a distinguished playing career.
