Now, according to former Real Madrid star and Italy international Antonio Cassano, Messi plans on continuing at the top level for a few more years.
Cassano recently revealed the details of the conversation he had with the maestro while visiting Inter Miami’s training base.
“He spent an hour and 40 minutes with my family and me. We talked about many things. He treated me in a way I never expected. He’s the only person that, when I see him, I can’t speak, I can’t say anything,” Cassano said per GOAL.
The former forward then revealed Messi’s reported retirement timeline.
“I can play three or four more years. I do it for the love of soccer, I enjoy it,” Messi reportedly told Cassano.
Messi’s current Inter Miami contract will run until 2028.
Cassano also shared another exchange with the former Paris Saint-Germain star regarding his place among football’s all-time greats.

“Leo, do you even realise that you are the greatest player the history of soccer has ever seen?” Cassano asked.
Messi responded: “Antonio, whether I’m the No. 1, No. 2, No. 5, No. 10 or No. 15, what difference does it make to me? It changes nothing for me. I don’t listen to whether I’m first, second or third. I have passion and love for soccer.”
